Brian Fallon released a melodic cover that is simple on the surface but truly holds depth that many of us feel attuned to. As political wars rage and society is shredding itself to bits, there are a lot of people who remain silent. We would “rather be a lover than a fighter”. Silence covered by Brian Fallon is able to present the emotions and thoughts of the silent.
This song is originally by Marshmello ft. Khalid. With its electronic backbeat and pop core, you have to speculate what Brian Fallon’s playlist looks like. I remember when Harry Styles released his album and Brian Fallon tweeted out how great it was. This was the first instance where I wondered just how diverse his taste in music is (I should have thought about it before when he covered Katy Perry and Kelly Clarkson). When I saw him live just before his first solo album’s release he mentioned how he likes Jack Johnson (I mean, who doesn’t like Jack Johnson).
To profess that he likes Jack Johnson to a bunch of middle-aged guys who are diehard into their punk is impressive. This ties back to the core of “Silence”. In a world where lines are continually drawn, walls are built and heartbreak is more common than joy we should try to remove our own borders. To understand and to exercise empathy would transform our minds like never before. This song exudes how we have found peace by simply removing ourselves. We found our own peace. Because in truth, holding a grudge only hurts yourself.
Brian Fallon speaks of how we can find peace even as this war rages on. Awesome release to pick up your Friday! Let me know your thoughts below!
Keep listening to good tunes and tear down any walls you’ve been holding on to.
