It is difficult to imagine certain iconic songs performed in a new way. Gary Clark Jr. & Junkie XL took The Beatles “Come Together” and made a version that is completely theirs. The musical style tastefully ties back to bluesy roots. The wailing guitar would make Jimi Hendrix jump out of his seat and applaud. This cover of Come Together is a respectful rendition that can be appreciated from past musicians to present.
Thematically DC films have been incorporating guitar riffs. Wonder Woman’s appearance almost calls for someone to play the iconic riff established in Batman vs. Superman. Unfortunately, a traveling guitarist accompaniment at all times is a bit pricey. With Come Together’s appearance in the commercial and Suicide Squad’s thick mixture of soundtrack artists, we can expect an explosive amount of quality sounds when the film comes out.
Getting back to the artist. Gary Clark Jr. is a modern blues artist that is underrated in the music world. Listening to his music sends chills down your spine. Hopefully, the release of this cover draws attention to his classic sound. If bands like Kaleo, Gary Clark Jr., and The Black Keys (I know they sadly aren’t together) keep growing in popularity “Pop Music” may get a facelift.
