My Own Souls Warning is set to be part of The Killer’s 6th studio album, Imploding the Mirage. My Own Souls Warning Music Video Breakdown

It looks like I was slightly on track with the American dream, smalltown vibes that the first music video clips presented. The Music video for My Own Souls Warning gave me way more to go off of. Mainly because of the dialogue and context clues of the dialogue. Give the video a listen below:

As you can see and hear, the older gentleman is not exactly happy with where he is at in life. More specifically, where he is physically located. Check out their actual dialogue:

  • Him: “There’s nothing for us to work with here,”
  • Her: “Okay, do you want to improvise something?” (I think this comment is in regards to the film they are creating)
  • Him: “No, I mean us”
  • Her: “US!?”
  • Him: “No, not us, us” (Good save my man, that could have been a rougher night than you anticipated) “Us, here. What memories are you supposed to be able to draw from a place like this?”
  • Her: “Well what memories do you want to bring to a place like this?”

Then, I believe they are shooting a scene when he says, “Let me introduce you to the feather wig queen” These are also the opening line to Caution.

It looks as though his character building and storyline may take a hardened man who is unhappy with his position in life and slowly soften and mold him into seeing the simple joys of where they are. As I watch the scene where he is losing it laughing and the director looks displeased, I can’t help but wonder if that is his breaking point. I also fear that his wife dies at the end of the short film, but I’m hoping that isn’t going to be the case.

A character-building short film that is focused on the simple joys would be such a great film. I think there needs to be more content that looks at the positives. Something that isn’t a hallmark movie, something that is raw and real, but most of all hopeful.

What do you think the Killer’s short film will be about?
