I know their album comes out Oct. 6, but they just keep giving us these appetizers! Lifeboat could be the main meal for all I care. Okay okay, I’ll stop using food analogies (my sister is probably reading this and judging me so hard). At this point, New Politics has released half of the new album “Lost in Translation”.
The songs released are:
- CIA (Probably my favorite)
- One of Us (seemingly the anthem of their present tour)
- Madeleine (Check out my review here)
- Color Green (A little bit more mellow, but so wonderful live)
- Lifeboat (you are literally reading my review, pretty cool huh?)
Lifeboat is about, “being stuck in a relationship & feeling helpless about it.” That is taken verbatim from their twitter. The irony about their explanation of each song is the fact that the album is called “Lost in Translation”. They seem to be trying to keep us from just that. The lyrics and meaning are clear, so let’s take a look (or listen) to the sound.
There is a quick build-up in which we are dropped into the explosive music of the song. Immediately there was a moment where I cocked my head trying to absorb everything I felt. As I listened to the song I had a wonderful throwback feeling.
New Politics take the “pop-punk” sound that 90’s kids fell in love with and give it some new fabric (specifically floral). I get vibes of Good Charlotte and Fall Out Boy, but New Politics own the sound completely. I want to see them again live just to dance and scream to this song!
I think “Lost in Translation” is going to be an album of singles that will make the album as a whole worthy of purchasing a hard copy for your collection. With how diverse half the album is, I can’t wait for the rest of it.
I’ll be chewing on this appetizer for a little, but I’m ready for the main meal, so stop teasing me!
