Walk the Moon is Back!

Walk the Moon hinted at a single drop on their Twitter Monday, Sep. 18 with a starry image that simply said “friday”. This Friday I am starry-eyed over “One Foot“. The band also seems starry-eyed in the music video with their silver painted tears. The meaning of the song will bring you to tears as well while making you want to jump up and dance.

This new single is important for so many reasons. After Walk the Moon canceled their tour in 2016 due to Nick Petricca wanting to spend time with his father who was struggling with Alzheimer’s Disease. As fans, our hearts went out to the band and respect was immediately gained for the group. Their priorities are straight because family should definitely come before fame. There was a fear in the back of my mind though. Experiencing a loved one going through Alzheimer’s is difficult (I know friends who have dealt with the long drawn out degradation). Would this experience be a killing stroke for the band?

No. The theme of “One Foot” is a beautiful representation of the band conquering a struggle together. Even though their present state of mind is: “Desert in my mind”, “I remember the fight”, “My hearts a mess.” But don’t worry, they are a tight-knit group: “I’ve got your back and you’ve got mine” “All we have is each other.” And they are fighting the battle together by clearly saying, “The only defense is to brave the wilderness”, “Taking this one step at a time”, “One foot in front of the other”. The song still keeps the reality of a struggle with the line, “How come even together there can be loneliness.”

This single shows the band has been refined like the silver on their eyes by this struggle. They did not lose their positive outlook on life. With each other, the struggle can be conquered. I believe this next album will be positive and unifying overall, with a touch of pain. We need to be unified to get through the struggle of pain.

The future is bright no matter the struggles.
