Mentor

About Mentor

Here you will find articles on career, leadership, marketing, and self-reflection. A large amount of the content will be related to Christian leadership or marketing because of my own personal investment and experience in those areas.

In regards to career, this blog is designed to go against the standards. On LinkedIn and Facebook, there are articles telling students how to save time, be successful, and of course "seize the day". These nuggets of information are nice, but the purpose of the material presented is to boost views and help boost advertisement sales. The purpose of this blog is to help you and give exposure to the raw truth of the academic and business world.

This is also for my personal enjoyment and self-reflection. By presenting my experiences and reflections I hope to celebrate my successes and most of all, recognize my failures so that I may grow even more. I also hope for you to be entertained by my failures and to learn from them as well.

"Our greatest fear should not be of failure but of succeeding at things in life that don’t really matter."

- Francis Chan

Mentor Subtopics

Mentor has a variety of subtopics. Take a look at blog posts that are of interest to you.

Leadership

This is an area I continually see my lack of experience as I get more and more responsibility as a leader. Learn more about leadership.

Career

I love career hunting and how it fluctuates in life. Learn from me studying the effectiveness of LinkedIn and highering tactics to running my own business and nonprofit.

College

College is a weird time. How you approach it will determine how much it benefits you and your future.

Book Reviews

There are so many "self-help" books out there. I like them, they motivate me and I learn from others' experiences.

Self Reflection

This could honestly be a list of reflective mistakes mixed in with some cool successes. This is more for my own processing and improvement.

    What Mentor Is To Me

I'm similar to you, a person trying to make my way in the world.

I have mentors in my life, but I do not have a definitive one as you see in books and films. The largest mentor you will find is experience. Here you will find my research, experience and so much trial and error. More error than I would like to admit.

With these errors come growth. If you let me make the mistakes for you, you'll be ahead of other students in your class.

Many of you have been informed we would find more success if we had a mentor and also mentored someone younger than us. Initially, I did not think I had a mentor, but over time I realized I had many mentors who advised and encouraged me in different areas of my life. I also have many students who I mentor in many different areas I have already experienced. This realization, while also reading articles from Forbes magazine inspired me to document certain experiences and personal growth that could divulge helpful insights to you.

Take note, I'm not a professional advisor, I'm simply reflecting on my failures and successes. If you disagree with anything I write, let me know. I enjoy the discussion and above all else desire to improve myself.
