About My Creative Writing

Here you will find writing that is focused more on fiction and nonfiction storytelling. A large amount of the content will be short stories or scenes to work on my abilities in this area.

Writing has actually always been an area that I struggled in. My primary struggle is with Grammar, but upon starting my first writing classes that were not technical or scholarly I realized I had so much more to learn in the area of structuring a story.

My first attempt at a book was in 1st grade. It had a sentence accompanied by a picture. My mom was probably sick of me asking how to spell things by the end. More importantly, my sister and I defeated the castle with all of the Ghosts and Ghouls by the end (what, I liked scooby doo).

My second attempt was in 8th grade. This was a bit more advanced with maps and characters. I had even created different types of creatures with drawings and stats. I had gotten about 25 pages in and the characters were flat, I don't know their mission and they didn't either.

It was another 8 years when I had a fiction writing class elective that I was finally able to write some work I felt mildly proud of. Now I hope to continue my writing and to eventually publish a piece.

“Read, read, read. Read everything  —  trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window.”

- William Faulkner
